Beavertown – Black Betty Black IPA -7.4%
From The Beavertown Brewery comes Black Betty Black IPA at 7.4%. De-canning initially gives a malty citrus aroma. This beer pours straight black from the can and generates a good lingering white frothy head. The hop aromas soon drop off to be dominated by complex coffee, caramel and liquorice notes. The beer then transforms into a sweet hybrid porter/stout with a bitter sweet lingering aftertaste. Bringing all these elements together to balance demonstrates some excellent brewing skills. All in all, one of my favourite black India Pale Ales to date.
