Brouwerij Van Steenberge – Gulden Draak 9000 Quadrupel – 10.5%
From Brouwerij Van Steenberge comes Gulden Draak 9000 Quadrupel at a mighty 10.5%. The pour aroma is mighty and strong, defining Belgian noble hops, a hint of grassiness and a sweet malty infusion. The pour overall is pretty crap, slightly red in appearance and the head degenerates to nothingness pretty quickly. The taste is fully carbonated, with a sweet hop aroma that betrays the strong ABV somewhat. Mouthfeel is pretty good, yet really sweet and mingles the compact carbonation with the body of the beer to create a good texture. I feel that the beer needs some refinement and has overdosed the use of sugar additions somewhat, but overall, a good, almost sparkly example of a macro type quad beer.
