Cloudwater DIPA v3 – 9.0%
From Cloudwater in Manchester comes Cloudwater DIPA v3 at 9.0%, a double India Pale Ale. A great aromatic blast on de-capping, defining melon, grapefruit and lemon citrus from the American bred hops. The pour sound is pure white noise. Massive carbonation with very little head generation, which i’m not entirely sure that I like. The taste is sweet and citrusy, aromatic and resinous, yet completely uncomplex and a surprisingly low bitterness. Mouthfeel is light for 9.0% ale. The pour is clear amber. I really want to love this beer, but I can’t help feel that it is a dextrose addition ‘beefed up’ standard IPA. It’s really quite good, but not quite what I would expect of a DIPA and the price that it commands. I’m not sure this DIPA really works, as it seems a bit simple for my liking for the category. Pilgrim Alpha hops & CO2 extract for bittering and Citra, Chinook, Comet and mosaic hops for aroma.
