Geeves Brewery – Clear Cut Extra Pale Ale – 4.4.%
From the Geeves Brewery in Barnsley comes Clear Cut Extra Pale Ale at 4.4.% Initial decapping gives a sharp blast of C02. The aroma is mild citrus and grapefruit with a german hoppiness twang. The pour is the painful bit. Massive initial carbonation makes pouring a steady continuous process with monster head generation, Something a belgian brewer would be proud of! The colour is extra pale straw with flaked particles present (usually what you would see within double IPA’s) , with a sweet initial taste that develops into bitter pith like citrus bitterness and then from no-where, the hop bitterness pokes its head through, achieving a double bitterness which I found surprisingly nice. The beer has body! When poured in the glass, it has steady compact carbonation and the beer offers a nice mouth feel for the style. Some nice oily resinous textures emerge with the excellent lingering bittering. The beer is quite gassy, and pleasantly tumbles around in your stomach for quite a while. I’ve not had anything this different and pleasant in a long time. Well done Geeves!
