Guinness – Foreign Extra Stout – 7.5%.
From Guinness comes Foreign Extra Stout at 7.5%. Perhaps the last macro brewery ale in my beer supply, it had to go. Upon de-capping, you get an aroma blast of burnt sweet liquorice (which is almost intoxicating in itself). The beer is a deep rich bitter beast, with influences of dark roasted coffee, liquorice and a bitterness bordering on a DIPA. The stout is a smooth as silk, with the alcohol suitably hidden under the masses of caramel & malt. Yes, this has body, and extra body. For a macro brewery, perhaps my favourite macro beer to date. Impressive.
