Hitachino Nest – Saison Du Japon – 5.0%
From the Japanese Kiuchi Brewery comes Hitachino Nest – Saison Du Japon at 5.0%. The ingredients revolve around a malted rice base. After the initial ‘mop up’ of the beer going everywhere (somewhat excessively lively beer and it’s Massive carbonation) De-capping gives a lovely aromatic hint of vinegar and apple cider-ness, which i’m guessing is the Yuzu coming through. The pour is a generic amber, the taste is very sweet for a saison and a bit watery. No typical yeasty presence coming through at all, with no spice and not very bitter either. Simple Malt, orange in appearance. Not much character and lacking body. Sweetness dominates this beer with a mild, barely discernable hop presence. Not a great ‘Saison’, a bit odd. but good sake beer? maybe.
