From The Wild Beer Co. come Wild Goose Chase at 4.5%. Described as a farmhouse pale + Gooseberry + Zingy. It kick starts with a tart but juicy apple cider aroma. This is no doubt a ‘sour’ beer, but not overwhelmingly so. There are cider like qualities here, but it is certainly not sweet. Although I could detect some hop presence, unfortunately, the gooseberry cider aroma overwhelms this completely. The beer itself is fairly well carbonated, quite bubbly with a champagne like texture. Although different, I don’t think I will ever appreciate this style of beer. A small beer would be a good choice.
From the Brasserie De La Senne comes Jambe De Bois at 8.0%. A Belgian revolution Triple. Light and crisp, full of peach and more heavily hopped (bittering wise) than anything sampled in Belgium so far …. There’s no discernible aroma other than some grassy hops, but the taste is full of Citrus fruit and the bitterness really complements this. The alcohol is mostly hidden by boat loads of fruity flavours and spice. perhaps one of the tastiest Triple beers that i’ve sampled so far. Thoroughly recommended!
From the Brasserie Lefebvre comes Barbar at 8.0%. A Strong Ale made with honey. Decapping gives a great malty biscuity aroma with scents of honey spiced citrus notes, the appearance is a rich deep blonde amber colour. sparkling with a wine like aftertaste. Soft and fruity, lightly dry with just a hint of Heather, coriander and honey. Mild apple taste too with a touch of acidity and a dry aftertaste. Not at all bitter, a bit mead like but really quite pleasant.
Brasserie Lefebvre – Barbar
From the Brasserie De La Senne in Belgium comes Taras Boulba at 4.5%. An extra hoppy ale by an astounding brewery. Excellent label design work for an unfiltered blonde craft beer. Do not age! (in my opinion) as this is a well carbonated blonde, with a higher than average bittering (but not even close to british/US IPA). Moderate biscuit and grassy aroma. Slightly Saison like qualities without too much underlying spice. Maybe a bit borderline sour too. Quite interesting. This is an exciting brewery and beer on all accounts.
